Whether you are new to the travel nurse life or a seasoned veteran, we believe these packing tips can benefit YOU! These pointers can help you prepare for what’s ahead and give you what you need to have a great assignment once you settle in. Here are some of our Recruiters best tips when it comes to packing for those various 4, 6, 8 and 13-Week assignments.
Consider The Location Before Packing For Your Travel Nursing Job-Assignment locations have different climates and may offer different activities which could lead you to pack different items.
Dress for the Weather-It is best to always consider the weather and potential activities when developing your packing list. Be sure to check the upcoming weather to have an idea of what to expect. For instance, California can be warm during the daytime hours but sometimes cooler in the evenings. Bring pieces of clothing that will suit the range in temps at your assignment location.
Travel smart (and light)-Pack everything you think you need then take away half. That means taking a minute to think what would be easier to actually buy when you arrive at your assignment. This is even more important if you are flying to an assignment.
Bring a heavy duty folder with all of your important info and records-It’s a good idea to pack all of your requested nursing documentation in order to be able to do your job (FlexRN will do our best to assist you since we have these type of items on file as well), your personal identification materials that are not easily replaced should be stored carefully, maybe some stamps to pay bills that can’t be paid online, and also a list of numbers/names you may need while away.
Pack a Taste of Home-Feeling comfortable in your travels is very important. We recommend if you have space, to bring a few items that remind you of family members and close friends. This can include anything from treasured photographs to special cards or gifts. These types of things help make a new place feel like a home away from home.
Be in touch with FlexRN-If there should be an issue while you are on your assignment, please let us know. We are here to help and listen to all of your questions, comments, and/or concerns! Knowing how your assignment is going also makes it easier for your Scheduler and Recruiter to assist you in locating your next assignment or possibly extending your current facility contract as an option.
